What is Figma Draw? Latest Figma Update

Figma became well-known for its intuitive interface and powerful design tools. Whether you’re sketching wireframes, building websites, or creating graphics, Figma is like a digital playground where designers and teams work together, no matter where they are.

What sets Figma apart from Adobe Illustrator? With its easy-to-use interface and cloud-based storage, it has quickly become a go-to tool for designers. As the design world evolves, Figma continues to be the buddy every designer needs. So, stay tuned, because things are about to get even cooler with the Figma Config 2025 updates!

Figma released one of the most amazing updates – Figma Draw. This feature allows designers to have more freedom with vector editing and making illustrations, without having to leave the canvas and interrupt their workflow.

What is Figma Draw?

Imagine a digital sketchbook where your vector ideas come to life. As we said, Figma Draw is a tool within Figma that works as a playground for vector editing and getting creative with the illustration process. It’s also perfect for quickly brainstorming with your team.

It includes tools like brushes, progressive blur, text on a path, strokes, texture and noise effects, and more.

Remember how vectors were created in Figma before? No freehand drawing with brushes, no advanced effects, and a lot of clicks involved - and well, relying mostly on other Figma plugins or other external resources. Drawing vectors in Figma just got a lot easier, as we found out at Figma Config 2025.

You wonder how? With Figma Draw, you can create graphics directly inside the platform, without having to jump between apps in search of a more natural alternative.

How to Use Figma Draw?

  • Smart Selection Made Simple. Selecting vertices, aligning objects, spacing them out evenly, or closing open paths. You can tab through selected shapes and update curves with ease.
  • Easier Boolean and Outlines. Thanks to an improved boolean engine and outline stroke handling, shape editing is quick and effortless.
  • Edit Multiple Nodes Like a Pro. Speed up your workflow by editing several nodes at once. Just select some and hit Enter. Need to add more? The answer is Shift+click. Want to jump straight into editing another node? Then you need Command+click.
  • Shape Builder Tool. This tool lets you combine, cut, and sculpt basic shapes into custom icons, logos, or whatever design ideas pop into your mind.
  • Lasso Selection. With it, you can draw a freehand loop around the objects you want and select only what you want. This is perfect for cleaning up dense illustrations or selecting oddly shaped groups.

A Space for Unlimited Creativity with Figma Draw

Designers are an endless spring of creativity. The new “sketchbook” of Figma is a place where they can express themselves limitlessly. It allows them to explore every shade of their ideas and experiment even beyond what they thought possible.

Deepen your designs with progressive blur, brush your signature on the canvas, and play with textures. What makes Figma stand out for us are three key features:

  1. A hand-drawn feel, achieved through brushes and dynamic strokes
  2. A texture boost using tools like pattern fill, noise, texture, and progressive blur
  3. New creative shapes made with precise rotation origin, text-on-path tools, and node repetition.

Figma Draw Brushes

Let’s get into more detail with some of the most popular tools around: pencils and brushes. They are as flexible as they get, allowing you to paint directly on your Figma project and properly design vector networks.

By using the pen, you need to click to place each point exactly where you want, while the pencil and brush tools are more like drawing with a real pencil or paintbrush. Use the pen for more precise, geometric shapes, and the other two wands for sketchy drawings. It's so convenient!

One helpful feature of the pencil and the brush is the secondary toolbar from which you can set the stroke’s color, size, and style. Even more ingenious, you can customize your brushes to suit your tastes. Keep in mind that custom brushes can only be created from closed vector paths, from any single vector layer.

Quick Guide:

→ Right-click on a vector layer.

→ Go to Create brush.

→ Select the Stretch brush.

→ This will stretch the brush style along the length of the stroke.

Figma Draw Texture and Effects

The effects in Figma are: drop shadow, inner shadow, layer blur, background blur, noise, and texture.

  1. Drop shadows are a great way to signal an element as interactive and bring depth to your work. It is also a great way to stylize text. What happens? It basically projects an object’s shadow on the surface behind it.
  2. Inner shadows can be applied inside the selected object. A great idea is to use it to suggest an active or pressed state of a button.
  3. Layer blur can be used to suggest movement, detract focus from the background, or hide information. Unlike uniform blur, through progressive blur, you can set the blur’s size and intensity from the beginning to the end of it. When making a background blur, keep in mind to set the layer opacity between .10 and 99.99%
  4. Noise is the perfect effect if you want to obtain a film photography vibe. It makes the surface of the selected object grainy by applying random pixels.
  5. Texture roughens the edges of objects, creating a ridged look. Its settings include size and radius options, so get creative!

Figma Draw is transforming how we approach vector editing. With Figma Config 2025 updates, you can now create and edit vectors directly in Figma, without needing to switch to tools like Adobe Illustrator. It combines the power of traditional vector tools, like those in Illustrator, with the seamless workflow Figma is known for.

We encourage you to give Figma Draw a try and see how it makes your vector work smoother and more efficiently.
